My Watercolor Journey
I first used watercolor paints in junior high with my best friend, Lisa. We painted plein air — away from our parents and younger siblings. I used the cheapest paper and, can you imagine, the 8 color school watercolor sets? I continued my art training in college taking advanced art classes while I pursued a more “practical” degree in Math.
After finishing college, I started my career in computer programming at IBM in Rochester, MN, while raising my two daughters alongside my husband, Tom. For several years, I didn’t engage in painting until my mother retired. In 1996, she invited me to join her on a painting trip to Ireland — so I purchased some new paints and paper, and we had an amazing experience!
My mother and I journeyed together and participated in workshops led by top international watercolor artists. As I practiced and received this fantastic training, my skills improved significantly. I’m passionate about the watercolor medium and continue to travel and create art.
I am deeply committed to supporting the arts and elevating the watercolor medium on a national and international stage. My leadership roles include Past President of both the Georgia Watercolor Society and the Kentucky Watercolor Society, where I currently serve as National Show Chair.
My work has been accepted into numerous national and international exhibitions, earning three awards in prestigious shows. A personal highlight has been my publication in Splash 20 — a resource I deeply admire.
